Bevan Brittan occupies a dominant position in the public sector, particularly through its heavy involvement in the Building Schools for the Future and NHS LIFT programmes, both regionally and nationally. Clients describe its work as ‘assured, confident and successfulLegal 500 2007

Bevan Brittan has one of the largest dedicated Projects teams; it consists of 32 lawyers, including 7 partners, working exclusively on PPP and PFI projects. The team is supported by a wider network of specialist lawyers in the areas of Banking, Planning, Construction, Employment, Real Estate and Procurement.

To date our team has advised on in excess of 300 projects and successfully brought over 100 of those projects to "financial close". We also continue to advise after "financial close" with issues surrounding the construction, occupation, variations and refinancing of projects.

Recent assignments include:

  • Structuring the Building Schools for the Future Programme and drafting the standard documentation for this initiative. This programme aims to provide every local authority in England with modern, fit for purpose facilities for all pupils in secondary education by 2020.

  •  Advising two of the first four Building Schools for the Future Pathfinder projects: Bristol and GLAS (Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark).

  • Developing NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) which is a national initiative to deliver the requirements of the NHS Plan on primary and intermediate facilities.  To deliver 5,000 GP premises and 500 one-stop-shop primary care facilities.  The Department of Health have estimated that the value of new premises to be delivered under LIFT for the next five years at £4-6 billion;

  • Leading the negotiations on the Abbotsford Hospital and Cancer Centre Project, the largest PPP in the health sector to date in Canada.

Clients of the Projects and PFI team span the public and private sector including Partnerships for Schools, Partnerships for Health, Bristol City Council, London Borough of Lewisham, Costain, Morrison Project Investments, Mill Group, Hochtief Developments, Reliance Secure Task Management, Bank of Ireland and Nord LB.
