We advise
on specialist regulatory, constitutional and procurement
issues as well as providing generic legal services including
employment law, commercial litigation and commercial
property work.
Our Central Government client list already includes the
Department for Education and Skills, the Commission for
Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission, the Health & Safety Executive, the
Treasury Solicitors and Partnerships for Health.
We also work with a wide range of public sector agencies
including Ofsted, OfCom and the Audit Commission, several
Regional Development Agencies, the NHSLA, and for many other
public sector health and local government bodies.
In 2003, Bevan Brittan was appointed to five of the seven
new L-CAT standing panels of legal advisors authorised to
act for Central Government departments, Executive Agencies
and Non-Departmental Public Bodies. We see this as an
endorsement of our experience, quality and value for money
in advising government organisations These appointments
followed a competitive procurement exercise on the basis of
offering best value for money.
We are currently on the L-Cat panels for IT,
Telecommunications and E-commerce, Human Resources,
Construction, Financial & Banking Matters and General
Commercial matters. Through the L-Cat panels we have
advised on issues as diverse as IT and E-Commerce, major
construction disputes, employment issues, regulatory issues
and data protection.
Our IT, Telecommunications & E-Commerce team support and
advise organisations in sectors where IP and/or IT are
business-critical. We advise in the procurement of high
value IT systems and services by public sector bodies. In
addition we offer the specialist legal skills required for
IP and IT transactions with a
commercial approach to contract negotiation and the
exploitation and procurement of intellectual property
rights.
Our
Construction team is at the
forefront of working with public sector bodies and
government agencies to develop innovative forms of contract
and standardised contract documentation in Public Private
Partnerships. As well as drafting documentation for NHS
Estates 'Procure 21' initiative to introduce supply chain
management and collaborative working to NHS Construction
Procurement, we are also the joint author of the Be
Collaborative Contract, the cutting edge of new contractual
arrangements. This is the first contract to recognise the
key importance of good file management to the successful
criteria of projects. It is also the first standard form
contract capable of being used to appoint all participants
on a project – main contractor, consultants and
subcontractors.
Our
Human Resource team advises on all
aspects of employment law and our expertise includes advice
on topics such as TUPE issues and consultation,
Discrimination, Maternity, Unfair dismissal and wrongful
dismissal and drafting and negotiating contracts
In addition, our specialist team of
PFI and PPP lawyers is one of the
foremost in the country, with over a hundred 'closures' to
its credit. These give Bevan Brittan exceptional expertise
in meeting the demanding requirements of the public sector
in the context of often complex, high value projects for
which PFI is the chosen funding mechanism.
