Bevan Brittan Appointed to Advise Waste Authority on Waste Procurement Contract

Bevan Brittan LLP has been appointed to advise North London Waste Authority (NLWA) on the UK’s second largest waste procurement contract worth £3 billion.

Following a competitive tender process involving 23 legal firms, the team led by projects partner Nigel Campbell was selected to advise on the procurement of a new waste disposal contract for 2014. This will involve securing sites, consultation exercises and the development of robust planning applications.

NLWA was established in 1986 following the abolition of the Greater London Council and manages the disposal of waste for seven London Boroughs – Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.

Nigel Campbell said: “The issue of waste disposal has become a major issue on the political agenda for local authorities as they attempt to meet tough national and European waste management targets while working to tight budgets and without putting additional pressure on council tax.

“This is a significant win for our waste practice and demonstrates Bevan Brittan’s position as a market leader in this sector. It is very encouraging to be involved in such an important and significant project.”
