North Somerset Housing Appoints Bevan Brittan

Bevan Brittan has won a tender to advise North Somerset Housing (NSH) as its first legal adviser after moving away from using North Somerset Council’s in-house team.

The firm beat other legal firms to this new appointment which will see most of the work consisting of property and housing management issues, and some additional work in the areas of employment and construction law.

NSH is a housing association that was set up to receive the transfer of North Somerset Council’s housing stock in February 2006. It currently owns and manages over 6,100 homes in the North Somerset district. NSH works with both tenants and leaseholders to provide improved services and to deliver £159 m of modernisation works to homes.

Kane Kirkbride, partner at Bevan Brittan and an expert in social housing issues said: “It’s great to be chosen by NSH as their sole legal adviser. It’s a very exciting time for them as there are a variety of legal issues connected with the management of social housing. It’s a great fit with our existing practice and strength of expertise so it’s good to be recognised by NSH as a leader in this field.”

Steve Chinn, NSH’s Director of Operations, said: “Bevan Brittan stood out over the other firms in terms of the quality and value for money of service they provide their clients. We were looking for proactive lawyers who would be easy to work with – we believe we’ve found the right partner and are looking forward to working with them over the next two years.”
