Bevan Brittan LLP is giving practical legal advice to
ensure a smooth transition for businesses when the
smoking ban comes into force in England by hosting a
workshop on Tuesday 29 May between 8.30am – 11am at its
London office.
The breakfast training session, run in association with
the British Hospitality Association, will be pitched
from a licensing, employment and health and safety
perspective to give delegates all the information they
need to know about how the ban will affect their
business.
Mugni Islam-Choudhury, employment associate, barrister
at Bevan Brittan said: “The smoking ban will have an
immense impact for businesses in the Leisure and
Hospitality Industry. It means a radical re-think about
premises, and issues over the enforcement of the ban,
not to mention the connected employment and health and
safety issues. Any breach in legislation from 1 July
2007 will cause businesses to be exposed to large fines
and other enforcement proceedings.”
The lawyers leading the workshop will look at how to
ensure areas that are not designated ‘smoke-free’ comply
with the legislation and it will explain the obligations
in terms of signage and enforcement. Employment issues
will be discussed, such as how to ensure there is no
smoking in smoke-free zones, how to deal with employees
who are themselves in breach of the ban and what to do
when employees are required to work in areas which are
not smoke-free.
