A team of eight lawyers and
support staff from Bevan Brittan LLP went back
to school last week and renovated a tired garden
for the children at
School of Christ The King in Knowle West,
Bristol.
The firm took up the challenge set by Cares and
jumped at the chance to help the community
primary school. In a day during the school’s
half term, the group transformed an area of
unkempt and overgrown land in to a
child-friendly garden which now includes raised
planted beds, a wooden outdoor stage/teaching
area and a bark chipping path.
Cares, Business in the Community’s employee
volunteering programme, provides extensive
support and opportunities for businesses to get
involved with the local community.
In addition to the digging, planting and
weeding, Bevan Brittan went one better and gave
the school book bags which will be given to 50
children to keep their school books in.
Bevan Brittan information centre manager,
Marilyn Morris was the team leader for the
project. She said: “The
wonderful results were achieved after a lot of
extremely hard work, including the moving of
several
tonnes of
compost. We have made the planting as
interesting as possible for the children by
including a variety of shrubs and herbs.”
School and family link worker and morning caretaker, Mr Paul Coyne, said "On behalf of the children, staff and Governors at School of Christ The King, I’d like to thank Bevan Brittan for all their hard physical work, as well as the effort they made to consult us; designing the garden with our needs in mind. A lot of preparation went in to the day and it paid off - the team did a fantastic and professional job; they’ve really made a difference. I can’t wait to see the children playing and learning in the garden during the summer term. They’ll love it, I’m sure.”
