Bevan Brittan Goes Back to School

A team of 22 lawyers and support staff from Bevan Brittan LLP went back to school last week and redecorated two large assembly halls at Fonthill Primary School in Southmead, Bristol.

The firm took up the challenge set by Cares and jumped at the chance to help the community primary school. In a day during the school’s half term, the group transformed the old, tired halls into bright and inspiring spaces for the children to hold assemblies, gym sessions and plays.

Cares, Business in the Community’s employee volunteering programme, provides extensive support and opportunities for businesses to get involved with the local community.

In addition to repainting walls, woodwork and radiators, Bevan Brittan went one better and gave the school book bags which will be given to the children to keep their school books in.

Bevan Brittan Associate, Caraline Johnson, one of the team leaders for the project, said: “We worked very hard to get the job done but it was worth it as the end result’s fantastic. I’m sure we will have made a huge difference to the children who will use the rooms in years to come – it’s a great feeling. I’d like to also take this opportunity to thank Wates for donating dust sheets, rollers and masking tape, and B&Q for giving us a discount on paint and equipment.“

Headteacher, Mr Stephen Dand, said "On behalf of the children, staff and Governors at Fonthill, I’d like to thank Bevan Brittan for their hard work and effort during the day. The team did a fantastic and professional job; they’ve really made a difference. I can’t wait to see the look on the children’s faces when they get back from half term and see the revamped halls.”
