My background
Called to the Bar in 1989, following award of Steen Scholarship. Tenant at 1 Crown Office Row - leading clinical negligence set. Joined Bevan Ashford 1995, Partner since 1997. Partner, Bevan Brittan LLP 2004-.

What I do
I specialise in clinical negligence, particularly obstetrics, gynaecology and neurosurgery claims. I am Head of Medical Law at Bevan Brittan. My role means that I am one of the firm�s nominated partners approved by the NHSLA and have handled a large number of high value complex birth injury cases. I maintain my strong interest in advocacy and lead advocacy training in the department. I also lead a team advising on inquests, capacity issues, best interests and patient information.

I play an active role in the client education programme run by the department.

Some examples
While at the Bar I was involved in the haemophiliac litigation and the Beverley Allitt inquiry.

In the GMC I acted on behalf of one of the transplant surgeons in the inquiry into use of kidneys from Turkey.

Recent important cases include the successful defence of a claim involving allegations of obstetric mismanagement which concluded with the Judge's formal recognition that, while childbirth is safer than it ever has been, it is quite impossible to always guarantee a safe outcome for a baby.
