My Background

Trained with Trowers & Hamlins, qualifying in 1988 and becoming a partner in 1996. Joined Bevan Ashford as a partner in 2004. Partner Bevan Brittan LLP, 2004-.

What I do

I am a partner in the clinical negligence team and work closely with the NHSLA. I am experienced in all types of clinical negligence claims but have a particular interest in cases involving brain injury as well as psychiatric claims. I am experienced at running high value cases with complex quantum issues for the NHS.

 

I have a broad background as a lawyer acting in the health, care and housing sectors. I take a particular interest in mental health and human rights law. I have also regularly advised on data protection and information management issues and the management of anti-social behaviour amongst challenging client groups.

 

I am a regular speaker on current legal issues and have recently spoken on the management of medication in care homes, being a witness in MHRTs, information management and the management of vulnerable tenants in the community. I have written for a number of publications including Jordan’s Review of Human Rights Law.

Betts v Barnet NHS Trust – successful defence of a respiratory failure case in A&E.

 

Settlements by negotiation or Part 36 payment of numbers of cerebral palsy claims.

 

I was a founder member of the Care Working Party, a project designed to streamline the assessment of care in high value cases.
