"The ‘extremely capable and responsive’ Caroll wins praise for his ‘detailed understanding’ and his ability to ‘rapidly assimilate complex situations’" Legal 500 2007

My Background
I was originally a management consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), specialising in Insurance and Financial Markets. I retrained and qualified as a solicitor with Veale Wasbrough in 1997. Joined Bevan Ashford in 1999, partner since May 2004. Partner, Bevan Brittan LLP since November 2004.

What I do
I advise both private and public sector clients on key commercial issues and contracts. Typically this will involve drafting and negotiating contract documents, advising on risk issues and finding mutually acceptable solutions to legal and commercial problems. I specialise in long-term commercial agreements, outsourcing and high-value procurement contracts. I also have particular expertise in the 'high tech' sector and have advised on a large number of IT and telecommunications deals.

Some examples
I advised Partnerships for Schools in connection with the IT and infrastructure requirements of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme and continue to advise a number of local authorities on the IT aspects of their BSF Projects.

I have advised our life insurance clients on a range of outsourcing projects, including print management, recruitment services, data management and related IT services.

I have advised a large number of NHS Trusts on strategic IT procurement projects, including contracts for telecommunications services, network management, electronic patient record systems, vehicle location systems (for ambulances) and picture archiving systems.

I advised a major UK-based manufacturer on a series of technology transfer agreements establishing strategic partnerships in Asia and Africa.  I continue to advise manufacturing clients on strategies for the protection and exploitation of intellectual property and know-how.

I advised a 3G telecommunications services company on the establishment of its business, its customer and content contracts and the international franchising of its product/services.

I advised the Pension Protection Fund on the procurement of pensions administration and compensation payment services. I have also advised a number of other Government agencies on matters such as facilities management requirements, intellectual property licensing and the provision of IT infrastructure services.

I advised a London NHS Trust in relation to a 15-year programme for the acquisition, maintenance and replacement of high-value radio-diagnostic equipment.

I advised the Ministry of Defence in the procurement (under PFI) of fire-fighting training services valued at £85 million.
