Our leading IT practice is recognised as one of the leading advisors to the public sector:

This “excellent” firm accrues much of its IP work from its successful public sector practice. Chambers A Client’s Guide to the Legal Profession 2007

The lawyers in our team all specialise in information technology law while at the same time drawing on their strong commercial law backgrounds. We support and advise clients in sectors where IT are business-critical including  in the procurement of high value IT systems and services by public sector bodies, particularly in the health, local government and education sectors.

Recent IT projects include:

  • Advising Bristol City Council on its groundbreaking Building Schools for the Future scheme, the first to reach financial close in the country. The IT-related aspects of this Project were key to its success and included the procurement of leading-edge “virtual learning environment” software, building management systems, the negotiation of complex contract interface arrangements with building and FM service providers, the development of a sophisticated payment and performance management mechanism and issues relating to insurance, replacement and maintenance of IT assets. Many of these issues were being considered for the first time, nationally, in a BSF context.

  •  A ground-breaking PFI contract for the provision of financial management systems and related support services to a collaboration of 12 Welsh NHS trusts. This procurement involved all but three of the NHS trusts in Wales and was one of the first collaborative procurements of IT services to be approved by the National Assembly for Wales.
